  6. Thank you for buying "SuperModels In The RainForest" Enhanced CD/CD-ROM
  7.  
  8. Some brief play instructions:  Enjoy SuperModels in stereo.  Please notice
  9. that the cursor will look different when over different parts of the screen. 
  10. The cursor will become a hand, indicating active buttons. When pictures or
  11. movies are playing, placing the cursor over the view screen will change the
  12. cursor to a "+", indicating that you may click on that view screen and zoom 
  13. to full screen.  Clicking again ("-" displayed), will return to normal size. 
  14. While movies or slide shows are playing, a video control panel will appear,
  15. giving fast forward, rewind, stop, play and record options. The record
  16. button (the cursor becomes a circle inside a circle) allows you to take 
  17. a snapshot of the movie frame being displayed. NOTE: DUE TO PC AUDIO 
  18. ANOMALIES, YOU MAY NOT HEAR THE SNAPSHOT SOUND IF MOVIE AUDIO IS ALREADY 
  19. PLAYING, HOWEVER, YOU ARE STILL TAKING SNAPSHOTS! These snapshots are 
  20. collected in the photo album. Inside the photo album section, you can
  21. edit your snapshots, save them to your internal hard drive for later 
  22. viewing, or load your friend's favorite snapshots.  While watching a 
  23. movie, you can use the fast forward and rewind buttons to find your 
  24. favorite photo, and for greater control, you can use the left arrow,
  25. right arrow keys on the keyboard.   Pressing the "Return/Enter" key 
  26. on your keyboard will bypass the intro section and go directly to the 
  27. main departure screen.  To quit, click on "Leave Paradise" from the 
  28. main departure screen, then view the credits or click on the credits
  29. to exit.  Also, Control "Q" or Control "." keystrokes on your keyboard 
  30. will exit program.  Before running "SuperModels In The RainForest", you
  31. must install QuickTime for Windows version 2.0.3 which is located on this 
  32. disk.

  34. The "SuperModels In The RainForest" installation program (INSTALL.EXE) will
  35. install QuickTime for Windows v2.0.3 as well as create a "SuperModels" 
  36. program group and icon in your program manager.
  37.  
  38. To install QuickTime 2.0.3 and the "SuperModels" program group and
  39. icon in your program manager:
  40.  
  41.   1) Enter Windows.
  42.  
  43.   2) Open your File Manager.
  44.  
  45.   3) Select the CD-ROM drive and double click on INSTALL.EXE.
  46.      (this installs QuickTime 2.0.3 and program group installer)
  47.  
  48.   4) Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
  49.  
  50. The QuickTime 2.0.3 installation will make changes to your 
  51. AUTOEXEC.BAT file so that QuickTime will be available every 
  52. time you start your computer. QuickTime 2.0.3 should not affect 
  53. the operation of any of your other software.
  54.  
  55. To run "SuperModels," double-click on the "SuperModels" icon in the 
  56. "SuperModels" program group window or double-click on "SuperMod.EXE"
  57. from the root of the CD-ROM.
  58.  
  59. IMPORTANT TECHNICAL NOTES:
  60.  
  61. Please make sure that you are not running any other software 
  62. when using "SuperModels" as this may cause decreased performance.
  63. If Double Cache is available on your computer, make sure it is off.
  64.  
  65. If performance of the CD-ROM seems slow,  you may want to enable 
  66. Virtual Memory using the 386 Enhanced Control Panel available from 
  67. the Main program group in the Program Manager.  If you choose to
  68. enable Virtual Memory, we suggest that you use the Permanent Type 
  69. setting for best performance.
  70.  
  71. If you experience strange display or audio problems we suggest that 
  72. you contact the manufacturer of your video or audio card and obtain 
  73. the latest drivers for your particular card.
  74.  
  75. "SuperModels" uses the latest in computer software technology and 
  76. requires current, state-of-the-art software drivers to run properly. 
  77.  
  78. Also, make sure that your video driver is set to display at
  79. 640x480 resolution in 256 colors.  Other display drivers settings may 
  80. impact the successful use of "SuperModels."
  81.  
  82. You can improve performance by enabling the faster speed settings on
  83. your double-, triple-, or quad-speed CD-ROM drive. 
  84.  
  85. Also, experiment with running your video card in 65,000
  86. colors (16 bit) or millions of colors (24 bit).
  87.

  90. This file contains information to help you successfully use your product. 
  91. If you are uncertain how to make a recommended change, you may also refer 
  92. to the user's guides that came with your computer system.

  94. Pre-Installation Notes
  95.  
  96. 1) Disk Compression:
  97.    If you are using a disk compression utility, the
  98.    available hard disk space reported by the installation
  99.    program might not be accurate. Disk compression utilities
  100.    can only estimate available hard disk space.  If the
  101.    installation process is not successful, you might need
  102.    to free additional hard disk space.
  103.  
  104. 2) Network Installation:
  105.    This product does not support network use.
  106.  
  107. 3) Installation Instructions:
  108.    It is highly recommended that you exit all applications
  109.    before installing your product. Other programs and drivers
  110.    running on your computer could interfere with the
  111.    installation process. Run SETUP.EXE from your file manager
  112.    to install.
  113.  
  114. ---KNOWN ERRORS AND THEIR SOLUTIONS--- 
  115.

  118. Videos don't play, only a black viewing area present
  119. ----------------------------------------------------
  120. A previous version of QuickTime may present on your system. Make
  121. sure that you have installed QuickTime for Windows v2.0.3 from the 
  122. CD-ROM.  If the videos still will not play, it is most probable 
  123. that your video card and/or device drivers are not compatible 
  124. with QuickTime video. Try the following suggestions:
  125.  
  126.     - Try setting your system to 640X480X256 colors using
  127.           the recommended video driver for your system. See 
  128.           your Windows Help or video card manual for instructions
  129.           on how to accomplish this if you are not familiar 
  130.           with the process.
  131.  
  132.     - If you use Windows version 3.11 or Windows for 
  133.           Workgroups, you have a Microsoft SVGA video driver 
  134.           available that is often an effective replacement for
  135.           the video driver causing problems.
  136.  
  137.     - Contact your video card manufacturer for an updated 
  138.           driver for your card. Many manufacturers are represented
  139.           on CompuServe, America On-Line and various other on-line
  140.           systems and post driver updates for customers to download
  141.           there.
  142.  
  143. For detailed information regarding QuickTime version 2.0.3, see 
  144. the information available in the read.me installed in the Quicktime 
  145. program group. 
  146.  
  147. "General Protection Faults" and "Application Errors"
  148. ----------------------------------------------------
  149. These types of errors are frequently due to video driver
  150. incompatibility or incompatibilities with other drivers
  151. in your system.  One of the following suggestions might
  152. solve the problem:
  153.  
  154.    - Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements
  155.      listed on the package.
  156.  
  157.    - Change the number of colors and/or resolution of
  158.      your monitor, then start the program again. See 
  159.      notes on video problems above.
  160.  
  161.    - Reinstall your sound card software, then re-install the
  162.      program.
  163.  
  164. This product has been successfully tested with a wide variety of 
  165. hardware and peripheral equipment. Microsoft Windows(tm) is a 
  166. device-independent operating system. This product is not 
  167. designed for compatibility with any specific hardware item in 
  168. preference to any other. Problems with sound cards, video 
  169. displays and printers are most often the result of problems in 
  170. the device drivers supplied by the manufacturers.

  173. "Disk Full" Errors
  174. --------------
  175. If you encounter these errors while installing or using your
  176. product, try deleting files to increase space on your hard disk
  177. drive.
  178.  
  179.  
  180. "Read Errors" and long delays:
  181. ----------------------------
  182. Defective CD-ROM discs are very rare. Make sure your disc
  183. is clean and free of scratches and fingerprints if you are
  184. experiencing problems like "Can't Read from Drive" or long
  185. delays.
  186.  
  187. GDI Read Errors and Virtual Memory:
  188. -----------------------------------
  189. If you should receive a "GDI Read Error" in Windows(tm) this
  190. indicates that you are experiencing a low memory condition. Try
  191. exiting any programs running in background. Performance will be
  192. improved by increasing the virtual memory setting to the
  193. maximum recommended size (at least 10 MB) and setting the type
  194. to permanent. Larger virtual memory settings can be made if 
  195. your hard disk is defragmented first.

  197. Slow Response:
  198. -------------
  199. In addition to the above steps, we recommend that users who are
  200. running SMARTDRIVE from DOS versions 6.0 and later set the
  201. cache size for Windows(tm) at 512K bytes or smaller. In
  202. addition, we recommend that you use the /X switch to disable
  203. write-back caching, as this can interfere with smooth data
  204. transfer from your CD-ROM drive. We also recommend you disable
  205. CD-ROM caching by using the /U switch. Please see your DOS
  206. manual or on-line help for detailed instructions on how to do
  207. this (type HELP SMARTDRV at the DOS prompt).

  209. Also, we advise setting the MSCDEX "/M:" parameter to /M:20. 
  210. This file is loaded in your AUTOEXEC.BAT and changing the value 
  211. increases available buffering for the CD-ROM.
